Virtues & Rewards of giving Charity according to Al Qura’an and Sunnah

  • Charitable giving keeps calamity away and ensures our needs will always be met: “Those who spend in charity will be richly rewarded” (Qura’an 57:10). Indeed, wealth does not decrease by giving in charity, but rather, grows and is purified, increasing also the individual's barakah (blessings and spiritual strength).
  • The charity of those who expend their wealth in the Way of Allah may be likened to a grain of corn, which produces seven ears and each ear yields a hundred grains. Likewise Allah develops manifold the charity of anyone He pleases, for He is All-Embracing, All-Wise. (Qura’an 2:261)
  • “Believers, do not let your wealth and your children distract you from remembering Allah. And those who do that are the losers”. (Qura’an 63:9)
  • “And donate from what We have provided for you before death comes to one of you, and you cry, “My Lord! If only You delayed me for a short while, I would give in charity and be one of the righteous.” (Qura’an 63:10)
  • “Help one another in acts of piety and righteousness. And do not assist each other in acts of sinfulness and transgression. And be aware of Allah. Verily, Allah is severe in punishment” (Qura’an 5:2)
  • “Those who in charity spend of their goods by night and by day, in secret and in public, have their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve”. (Qura’an 2:274)
  • In surah Al-Insaan Allah (swt) described those people who the feed hungry, needy and orphans purely in His (swt) love, “They give food to the needy, orphan and the captive”, and offers them a big reward. \“We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We do not want from you either reward or gratitude. Indeed, We fear from our Lord a horribly distressful Day". (Quraan 76:8-10)
  • To truly care for one another, we must love for others what we love for ourselves. What better way to love one another than to give charity? Apart from professing belief and prayer, charity is considered the third most important component of our faith. But what does our beloved Prophet say about charity?
